The term &amp;#039;&amp;#039;&amp;#039;single point in time&amp;#039;&amp;#039;&amp;#039; or &amp;#039;&amp;#039;&amp;#039;snapshot&amp;#039;&amp;#039;&amp;#039; is used to refer to situations where we want to calculate measures, or ratios of measures, that involve counts of entities (typically, counts of living populations and subpopulations) at a &amp;#039;&amp;#039;single point in time&amp;#039;&amp;#039;. We cannot use &amp;#039;&amp;#039;single point in time&amp;#039;&amp;#039; to calculate counts of &amp;#039;&amp;#039;events&amp;#039;&amp;#039;, because events can only be measured in a given measurement period (typically a year).&lt;br /&gt;

Note that these ratios &amp;#039;&amp;#039;must&amp;#039;&amp;#039; have both their numerator and denominator as measuring counts of entities, typically, subpopulations of a given population.&lt;br /&gt;
