Definition

A cohort is defined as a group of people sharing a common temporal demographic experience who are observed through time. The most common type of cohort used is the birth cohort, that includes the collection of all people born within a certain time period (along with other restrictions such as geography or race). School class cohorts or marriage cohorts may also be used.
