Definition

The net migration rate (NMR) of a population is defined as the difference between the immigration rate and the emigration rate for that population. Explicitly:

Net migration rate = Immigration rate - Emigration rate

It can also be expressed as the number of net migrants (i.e., immigrants - emigrants) per 1000 population.
