Definition

The completed fertility distribution for a set of females (typically a birth cohort) who have completed their childbearing years is a distribution of the completed fertility values for that set of females. Given the size of the cohort, the completed fertility distribution is information-wise equivalent to the birth order distribution for the live births to those females, i.e., we can compute either distribution from the other.
