Definition

The celibacy rate of a population is defined as the fraction of the population aged 45-49 (both sexes combined) that is never-married, i.e.:

${\frac {\mbox{Number of never-married people ages 45-49}}{\mbox{Total number of people ages 45-49}}}$

It may be reported as a simple fraction, as a percentage (denominator 100), or with a denominator of 1000.
